  • Joint Entrance Examination - Main or commonly known as JEE Main is a national-level entrance exam conducted by NTA to offer admissions to BE/BTech, BPlan, and BArch courses at the NITs, IIITs, and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs) across the country. 
  • JEE Main was earlier conducted by CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education), New Delhi.
  • Candidates who are able to qualify JEE Mains without attempting JEE Advanced can seek admission to BE / BTech courses in NIT`s and reputed engineering colleges, on the basis of their scorecard.
  • JEE Main is also the eligibility test for JEE Advanced which is the entrance exam for admissions to programmes offered by the IITs in India. 
  • Only the top 2.45 lakh score holders in JEE Main 2020 will be eligible to apply for JEE Advanced.
  • The candidate’s best of the 2021 NTA scores will be considered for preparation of merit list/ranking.
  • The counseling cum seat allotment for all the IITs, NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs will be organized and managed by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA).
  • For the first time, JEE Mains 2021 will be conducted in 13 languages including English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Marathi, Malayalam, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu.
  • Candidates are now required to attempt a total of 75 questions out of 90.
  • From 2021, JEE Mains will be held four times. It`ll be conducted in February, March, April, and May.
  • JEE Main 2021 application form can be filled online for all the sessions in a single attempt. It saves time as there is no need to fill the form for different sessions separately. However, students can choose to fill the forms later for subsequent sessions.

Application Details

JEE Main 2021 application form

    • National Testing Agency (NTA) released the JEE Main application form 2021 for the March session on March 2.
    • Candidates who wish to appear for Paper 1(BE/BTech) may fill and submit their JEE Main 2021 application form for the March session until March 6.
    • For JEE Main 2020 registration, candidates must check the JEE Main eligibility criteria as prescribed by the authority.  
    • The application process of  JEE Main 2021includes registration, filling the application form, uploading scanned images, payment of application fee, and taking the printout of the filled-in form.
    • The JEE Main application form correction window will not be available for the March session after the application form closes.
    • Candidates have the option to apply for one session or more than one Session (February/March /April /May 2021) together and pay the exam fee accordingly.
    • The JEE Main 2021 application window re-opens briefly after the declaration of the result of the February/March/April Session.
    • NTA will declare the  JEE Main 2021 result tentatively by March 7 for the February session.
    • The result of JEE Main 2021 will be available online on jeemain.nta.nic.in.
    • Candidates will need to log in with their application number and password to check the JEE Main result 2021.

Pre-requisites for filling JEE Main Application Form 2020

  • Class 10th and 12th academic details
  • Aadhaar Card or Aadhaar Enrollment Number
  • Scanned images of passport, voter ID or any valid Govt ID.
  • Valid email ID and Mobile Number

How to fill JEE Main Application Form 2020?

Step 1: Register for JEE Main 2021 Exam

The registration process for JEE Main comprises the below-mentioned steps. Interested candidates, before filling the application form, should ensure that they meet the  JEE Main eligibility criteria.

New candidates applying for  JEE Main 2021 need to register on the official website of the exam. Already registered candidates are not required to register on the website. Such candidates can sign in to JEE Main`s official website with their old credentials.

Step 2: Fill the online JEE Main 2021 application form

Next, aspirants need to fill their personal, academic and contact details in the JEE Main application form and note down system generated application number. They also have to create a password to be used for all future logins to correct application form, download admit card, and check the result. Below are the details that the candidates should fill in the application form.  

  • Exam - Choice of paper - B.E./B.Tech or B.Arch or B.Planning. Candidates must also select the preference of exam language in which they want to appear

  • Personal - Here candidates have to provide name, category, father`s and mother`s name etc.

  • Academic - Give details about class X and XII qualifying examination

  • Communication - Candidates have to provide their residential and correspondence details. 

  • Guardian Details - Provide details about parents/guardian`s occupation, qualification and total annual income among others.

  • Preferred exam cities - Candidates have select 4 cities as per preference for JEE Main 2021

Step 3: Upload scanned documents

At this step, aspirants are required to upload their scanned photograph and signature in the specifications prescribed (as mentioned in the above table). 

Before filling JEE Main 2021 application forms, candidates should have a scanned image of his/her recent photograph and signature. These scanned images are to be uploaded during the submission of the application form. Here are some important details that candidates should remember before uploading the scanned photograph and signature.

  • The photograph should be coloured or black/white (but clear contrast) with the name of the candidate and date of taking the photograph printed on it
  • The photograph should not have the candidate wearing a cap or sunglasses
  • Spectacles are allowed
  • Polaroid photos are not acceptable
  • Candidates with an unclear photograph will be rejected
  • Candidates are advised to reserve 6-8 identical photographs for all future purposes including the seat allocation and admission process

Step 4: Pay the JEE Main 2021 application fees

  • The candidates can pay the application fees in online mode only 
  • Online payment mode - Credit Card/ Debit Card/ Net Banking/Paytm/UPI

Step 5: Print the confirmation page

The last step is to take four printouts of the confirmation page, after the successful payment of JEE Main 2021 application fees. Candidates must keep the acknowledgment page till the admission process is over.

JEE Main 2021 Application Form Correction

Candidates can edit/change/update their particulars in JEE Main 2021 application form through the application correction facility.  Candidates have to enter their application number and password on the JEE Main login window. 

How to make JEE Main application form correction

  • Visit the official website of JEE Main 2021
  • Navigate and hit the `Image Correction JEE (Main) 2021`
  • Enter your Application Number, Password, Security Pin (displayed on the screen)
  • Click the ‘Login’ button
  • Click on ‘Manage Form Particulars Correction’ to edit and make changes
  • Read the instructions carefully
  • Edit the information and make the changes
  • Pay an additional fee if required


  • The additional fee (wherever applicable) must be paid by the candidate concerned either through Credit/Debit Card/Net Banking/UPI and PAYTM
  • Please note that incomplete and incorrect JEE Main 2021 forms will be rejected. Thus, candidates are advised to use this facility wisely. In case of any discrepancy, students can correct the same before the last date

  • Candidates who qualify JEE Main 2021 will have to apply for counselling for admission in NITs, IIITs or GFTIs.
  • JEE Main counselling is conducted by Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA).
  • Registrations for JEE Main counselling 2021 will start in June.
  • JEE Main counselling through JoSAA will include many steps such as registration, choice filling, locking of choices, seat allotment, and payment of seat acceptance fee.
  • JEE Main 2021 counselling will have a total of 7 rounds.
  • JoSAA will also conduct two rounds of mock seat allotment before the actual seven rounds of JEE Main counselling 2021 to help students understand the process. 

Candidates participating in JEE Main counselling have to undergo various step including Registration, Choice filling, Mock seat allotment and locking of choices, and Final seat allotment. 
Procedure for JEE Main counselling 2021

  • Step 1- Registration: Candidates will have to get themselves registered on the official website of JoSAA 2021.
    • Use JEE Main application form 2021 number and password to log in to the JoSAA candidate portal
    • candidates details will automatically be fetched from the JEE Main database upon successful login
    • verify all the details before completing the registration
  • Step 2- Choice filling: Post-registration, candidates will have to fill in their choice of institute and courses.
    • JoSAA 2021 choice filling has to be done within specified dates
    • Students are advised to select as many choices as they can as this will increase the chances of admission.
  • Step 3- Mock seat allotment and locking of choices: JoSAA conduct two mock seat allocations to help candidates know their chances of admission into the institutes. 
    • The mock seat allotment process is done to help students understand which seats can be allotted to them on the basis of their preference list. 
    • Candidates will also be able to change their preferences after the mock allotment.
  • Step 4- Final seat allotment: JoSAA will conduct a total of seven rounds of seat allotment.
    • JoSAA will allocate seats on the basis of the merit, category, selected preferences and availability of seats.
    • All the seat allotted candidates will be able to download the provisional seat allotment letter and an e-challan to remit the seat acceptance fee in online mode.
  • Step 5- Payment of seat acceptance fee: Candidates who have been allotted seats will have to pay the seat acceptance fee through e-challan or SBI net banking.
    • The seat acceptance fee varies depending on the category of the candidate.
    • After accepting the seat, candidates will have to report to the allotted institute for document verification.

Options will be available after JEE Main Seat Allotment?

After seat allotment is done, candidates have three options available to them 

  • The candidate satisfied with the allotted seat and does not wish to participate in the further rounds of counseling. (Freeze)
  • The candidate is satisfied with the seat but would like to be considered for other institutes during the future rounds of seat allocation. (Float)
  • The candidate has accepted the seat allotted but is also open for admission into a higher preferred course in the same institute. (Slide)

Documents Verification after JEE Main Seat Allotment 2021

After accepting the allotted seats, the candidates have to visit the reporting centres setup by JoSAA for verification of documents. At the time of reporting, candidates have to carry all the below-mentioned documents along with them:

  • JEE Main seat allotment letter issued by JoSAA
  • Three passport size photographs (have to be the same as uploaded during registration)
  • A government-issued photo identity card
  • Proof of fee payment for JEE Main seat acceptance
  • Date of birth proof
  • JEE Main Admit Card 2021
  • Class 12 Mark sheet

NTA has released the eligibility criteria for BTech, BArch, and BPlan papers. Candidates must fulfill all the eligibility conditions to be eligible for JEE Mains. The eligibility criteria for JEE Main 2021 is as follows: 

1. Age Criteria: There is no age limit for aspirants appearing in the JEE Main

2. Year of Appearance in Qualifying Examination (QE)

  • Candidates who have passed their Class 12 examination or any equivalent qualifying examination in 2019 or 2020 are eligible
  • Those who are appearing in their Class 12 examination or any equivalent qualifying examination in 2021 are also eligible to appear in January and April session
  • Candidates who passed Class 12th/Qualifying examination before 2019 as well as those who will appear in such examination after 2021 are not eligible to appear in JEE (Main)–2021.

3. Qualifying subjects: Candidates must have taken at least five subjects in class 12th /qualifying examination to be eligible

4. Qualifying marks

  • To appear in JEE Mains 2021, the minimum qualifying marks for admission to NITs, IIITs, SPAs, and CFTIs have been scrapped
  • Candidates should be in the top 20 percentile in the Class 12 exam conducted by respective Boards
  • For reserved candidates, the minimum qualifying mark has been scrapped

5. Total attempts

  • A candidate is allowed to attempt the exam for three consecutive years
  • The number of attempts will be four in total a year from 2021

  • JEE Mains Cutoff 2021 will be released by the National Testing Agency (NTA) after the conclusion of the May session.
  • JEE Main cutoff can be classified into two types – qualifying cut-off marks and admission cut-off.
  • The qualifying cut-off of JEE Main 2021 comprises the minimum score that JEE Main 2021 aspirants need to secure to be eligible for JEE Advanced.
  • The admission cutoff of JEE Main 2021 will be released by JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) in the form of opening and closing ranks for each institute. 
  • As the JEE Main is being conducted in four sessions this year, it is expected that the result for each session will be released within a week after the conclusion of the session.
  • Candidates can check their JEE Main 2021 Result by entering their application number, date of birth, and security pin on the official website: jeemain.nta.nic.in.
  • Candidates who meet JEE Main qualifying cut-offs will be eligible for admission to IITs in India. 
  • JEE Main 2021 Result for February Session has been declared by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on the official site
  • Candidates need to log in to the official portal: jeemain.nta.nic.in to download their JEE Main 2021 scorecard.
  • To view JEE Main 2021 result, candidates will need their Application Number, Date of Birth, and the Security Pin displayed on the page.  
  • The online NTA JEE Mains 2021 result will mention NTA JEE Main scores, percentile, and rank. 
  • Along with the result, NTA will also release the list of top 100 percentiles and JEE Main 2020 state toppers. 
  • This year, JEE Mains result 2021 will be declared separately for all four sessions.
  • NTA will not dispatch JEE Main 2020 scorecard to aspirants who appeared for the exam.
  • Candidates will get admission into NITs, IIITs, GFTIs, and other participating institutes based on the JEE Main result
  • The top 2.5 lakh qualified candidates of JEE Main 2021 will be eligible to appear in JEE Advanced 2021. 

How to check JEE Main Result 2021?

  • Visit the official website of JEE Main i.e. https://jeemain.nta.nic.in/
  • Click the tab “View JEE Main 2021 Result/Scorecard”
  • Enter your JEE Main Application Number, password/date of birth and security pin
  • Submit the required details, JEE Main 2021 results will be displayed online
  • Download and take multiple print outs of your JEE Main 2021 result for future reference
  • Candidates are advised to keep their scorecards safe till the admission process conclude

How to Check JEE Main Result if Forgot Roll Number?

  • There are usually two ways in which you can check your JEE Main Result in case you forget your Roll Number:
    • 1. Downloading Your JEE Main Admit Card Again
      • This facility can be availed if only the JEE Main admit card link is still functional. 
      • If the facility is still available, you can download your admit card again by entering your Application number and Password. 
      • Your admit card will have JEE Main roll number.
    • 2. JEE Main Question Paper Booklet
      • Candidates who had appeared in the JEE Main 2020 offline exam could carry their question paper booklet home where candidates’ were required to write their JEE Main Roll Number. 
      • From 2020, JEE Main exam for Paper 1 is held only online unlike previous years. 
      • Candidates appearing for both Paper 1 and Paper 2 can avail this facility as Paper 2 for BArch is conducted both online as well offline.

JEE Main Result and the problem of ties

  • JEE Main Result: Tiebreaker for Paper 1(BTech):

    • NTA score in Mathematics: Candidate who secures more percentile score in Mathematics will be ranked higher
    • NTA score in Physics: Candidate who secures more percentile score in Physics will be ranked higher
    • NTA score in Chemistry: Candidate who secures more percentile score in Chemistry will be ranked higher
    • Date of Birth: The older candidate will be ranked higher 

    Note: In case the tie still stands unresolved, the same rank is given to the candidates

    JEE Main 2021 Result: Tiebreaker for Paper 2 (BArch):

    • NTA score in Mathematics: Candidate who obtains higher marks in Mathematics will be given a higher rank
    • NTA score in Aptitude Test: Next, if the tie still persists, then aspirant with a higher score in the aptitude test will be allotted a higher rank
    • NTA score in Drawing Test: If the tie still persists, then aspirants with higher scores in the drawing test will be allotted a higher rank
    • Lesser negative response: Candidates having a lesser number of negative responses in the paper.
    • Date of Birth: The older candidate will be ranked higher

    JEE Mains Result 2021: Tiebreaker for Paper 3 (BPlanning):

    • NTA score in Mathematics: Aspirants who obtain higher marks in Mathematics will be given a higher rank
    • NTA score in Aptitude Test: If the tie still persists, then aspirant with higher scores in the aptitude test will be given a higher rank
    • NTA score in Planning Based Questions: If the above criteria do not break the tie, then the candidate will higher marks in planning based questions will be given the higher rank
    • Lesser negative response: Candidates having a lesser number of negative responses in the paper.
    • Date of Birth: The older candidate will be ranked higher

What after JEE Main Result 2020?

Post the declaration of JEE Mains 2021 result, the top 2,50,000 candidates are eligible to apply for JEE Advanced 2021. The online JEE Advanced registration for the same will start on the official website of JEE Advanced. Meanwhile, candidates can attend JoSAA counselling which will commence for all students to get admission to NITs and engineering colleges in India. Based on the scores and rank obtained in NTA JEE Main result 2021, a suitable college will be allotted to students.

Cutoff for JEE Advanced

  • National Testing Agency will release the cutoff of JEE Main 2021 after the conclusion of the May session.
  • No separate qualifying JEE cutoff marks for each session will be released.
  • Note that the JEE Main cut off 2021 is of two types- qualifying cutoff and admission cutoff.
  • The qualifying JEE Main 2021 cutoff will be the minimum marks required for qualifying the exam and also for participating in JEE Advanced.
  • JEE Main admission cutoff are the marks required for admission in JEE participating institutes. 
Admit Card
  • JEE Main admit card for March 2021 will tentatively be released by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on March 11.
  • NTA is expected to make available three links to download JEE Main admit card from jeemain.nta.nic.in.
  • Admit card of JEE Main 2021 is an essential document that the candidates must carry to the examination centre. 
  • Admit card also known as JEE Main hall ticket will consist of name, roll number, state of eligibility, JEE Main exam centre address and timings and other important instructions. 
  • Candidate must show, on-demand, the admit card downloaded/printed from NTA’s website for entry into the examination hall. 
  • Candidates must keep the admit card safely as it will be required at different stages of the admission and counselling process. 
  • Applicants who do not carry JEE Main admit card 2020 will not be allowed to write the exam at the test centre.
  • This year, the exam will be conducted in four sessions: February, March, April and May.

Steps to download JEE Main Admit Card in case candidate forgot password

  • Visit the official website of JEE Main

  • Click on the “Forgot Password” link

  • Answer the security question
  • A verification code will be sent to the registered mobile number
  • A password reset link will be sent to the registered email ID
  • Click on the reset password link and create a new password
  • Remember the new password
  • Login to the admit card link by using the new password

Documents to carry with JEE Main Admit Card 2021

Besides JEE Main 2020 admit card, students should also carry the following to the exam centre:

  • An undertaking: Candidates will have to carry a printed copy of admit card downloaded from NTA’s website along with the Undertaking duly signed
  • Sanitiser: Candidates have to carry 50 ml sanitiser bottle
  • Ball Point Pen: This time candidates have to carry a ballpoint pen to the exam hall
  • Photograph: Candidates are also requested to carry one passport size photograph to the test centre. This should be the same as uploaded while filling the online application form. The photograph needs to be pasted on a specific space in the attendance sheet at the examination hall
  • Transparent water bottle: Candidates have to carry one transparent water bottle
  • Masks & Gloves: Candidates have to wear masks and gloves while in the examination centre

Documents required:

  • Admit card: This is a mandatory document without which candidates were not allowed to take JEE Main 2020. Candidates will have to carry a printed copy of Admit Card downloaded from NTA’s website.
  • Photo: Candidates are also requested to carry one passport size photograph to the test centre. This should be the same as uploaded on the JEE Main online application form. The photograph needs to be pasted on a specific space in the attendance sheet at your examination hall.
  • Photo ID: Any one of the authorized photo IDs (must be original, valid and non-expired) too is required. Carry one of your valid ID proofs to JEE Main exam centre 2020. You can carry your Aadhaar Card in case you are asked for a photo ID. If you do not have one, then carry any valid Photo ID along with your admit card.
  • Certificates: PWD certificate issued by the Competent Authority, if claiming relaxation under PwD category.

Important points to be remembered for exam day

  • Latecomers: Ensure you reach your exam centre well before time. Latecomers will not be allowed to enter the exam hall. JEE Main 2020 Paper 1 will be held in two slots each day – from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM and from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM.
  • Prohibited Materials: As per last year’s trend, candidates will not be allowed to wear ornaments or wear watches. There will be stringent security and frisking before you enter JEE Main 2020 exam centre. Candidates should not carry to the test centre blue/black ball pen, bags, ornaments, calculators, slide rules, log tables,  printed or written paper, and other valuables etc.
  • No Usage of Unfair Means: Cheating/Impersonation is a punishable offence. Anyone found cheating will be barred from taking JEE Main exam 2020.
  • Test booklet:  Candidates should note that they are not allowed to remove any pages from the JEE Main test booklet.

Exam Day Conduct and Guidelines

  • JEE Main aspirant will not be allowed to carry pen/pencil in the exam hall
  • Blank paper sheets for rough work will be provided in the examination room
  • Candidates must write their name and roll number at the top of the sheet and return the sheets and admit card to the Invigilator, before leaving the examination hall
  • Diabetic students will be allowed to carry eatables like sugar tablets/fruits and transparent water bottle to the examination hall/room. However, they will not be allowed to carry packed foods like chocolates/candy/sandwich etc.
  • Candidates will have to sit on the seat allocated to them
  • Candidates will be allowed to appear at the allotted venue of test only
  • Wearing a watch inside the exam hall is not allowed
  • No candidate will be allowed to enter the exam centre once the exam starts
  • Candidates without an admit card will not be allowed to appear for the exam
  • Leaving exam hall before closure/end of the exam is not permitted
  • Request for change in JEE Main 2021 exam centres will not be entertained

Items prohibited inside JEE Main 2021 examination centre

  • Pencil/Geometry Box or any other stationery
  • Handbag
  • Purse
  • Any kind of paper or printed material
  • Eatables and Water (loose or packed)
  • Electronic items and instruments such as Mobile Phone, Ear Phone, Microphone, Pager, Calculator
  • Instruments such as DocuPen, Slide Ruler, Log Tables, Camera, Tape Recorder
  • Any type of watch including electronic watches with a calculator, any metallic item or electronic gadgets/ devices in the examination hall/room
