India is undergoing rapid industrialization since 2000 and many advances have been achieved in indigenous technology development. Besides, there has been an increase in Foreign Direct Investment and numerous international companies have also started their ventures in the country. Given the growth in industrialization, there is also a growing demand for professionals in various capacities, especially in the fire and safety departments.

A fire mishap is an unpredictable phenomenon. Similarly is the possibility of a mishap due to a lack of necessary safety features. Fire comes to life due to a variety of reasons including short-circuit, vandalism, and carelessness. In the same way, an employee can get seriously injured due to not wearing a harness or a helmet properly. This is where a safety officer comes in and mitigates or eliminates the scope for an accident or handles the situation in case of a mishap.

It must be noted that following fire safety regulations in India is mandatory and this can be best achieved through professionally trained Safety Officers. Companies are required by law to have competent professionals to prevent and handle issues relating to fire and safety. The training undergone by these professionals ensures the safety of employees and others who might be on the premises.

A trained safety officer has skill sets to recognize hazards, complete a fire risk assessment, take necessary action to prevent fires, and also possess knowledge on how to respond in the case of an emergency. These indispensable skills allow the complete removal of fire risks in the workplace like industries or a building.

Fire safety experts are not only required for industries, factories, buildings, and other areas, but also for the local fire brigades, security agencies, and offices small and large. As per many sources, India needs 15,000 to 20,000 Fire and Safety professionals every year; however, there is a shortage of these skills in the country presently.
