A nurse is one of the most important links in the chain of the health care industry. This specialized profession goes beyond the time-honoured reputation for compassion and dedication and keeps evolving to address the ever-changing needs of society. They guide and walk with the patient in his journey from illness to cure.

So what is nursing? Simply put, nursing means curing. It is the art and science of taking care of individuals, sick or well, with basic respect for human dignity and foresight for a patient’s needs. At the core of nursing lie the values of unity. In other words, to a nurse, all are equal and it’s their duty to make sure every patient gets the best possible care regardless of who they are. Be it a city hospital, community health center, state prison, or a summer camp, the compassion, dedication and care from the professional remain the same.

What does a nurse do? There is no typical answer for it since the field of nursing is spread wide. A nurse is responsible for making acute treatment decisions to providing inoculations in schools. They work towards the promotion of health, prevention of illness, and caring for physically ill, mentally ill, and disabled people of all ages. They give medicine, maintain patient records, and operate medical equipment along with routine duties.

Why become a nurse? This profession is your chance to serve for the betterment of humanity. Whether you are in the hospital or not, a nurse is a nurse. It’s a noble profession that everyone looks up to. It’s the next best thing to being a doctor and besides, the profession is always in demand and never remains unemployed.
